As you descend, canoe creek state park enter the riparian, or streamside, zone of Canoe Creek, which emanates from a forested watershed that has seen minimal development. Much of the upstream area is protected as State Game Land and is home to bobcats, rattlesnakes and broad-winged hawks.
You walk closer and closer to Canoe Creek, finally ending up walking on an old railroad bed, with the stream on your left and vernal canoe creek state park and a steep limestone hill on your right.
Further downstream you may see a beaver, or at least see his handiwork in the form of tooth-cut stumps, dams and lodges.
At a wooden bridge over a pool to bicycleretailer right, turn uphill climbing stairs made of old railroad ties. Just a decade and a half ago the young forest to the left was mostly shrubs and there was actually an interpretive canoe creek state park suggesting the best way to take photos of the lake from this area, which now is covered with forest.
The trails are extremely dog friendly as well. Walked around the lake with 4 little ones and a teenager.
Only downfall was the rain. Seen cannoe copperhead down by the spillway which was exciting. Good little hike for when you just have a short period of time and hunger for some fresh air.
I live close by so I'm here all cresk time. There are several trails in the park, all clearly marked and well maintained. There's something for everyone.
Quick easy hike if you need to get outside but don't have a ton of time. Also quite nice for younger children.
Plenty of places to stop and enjoy lunch. Nice rolling canoe creek state park with wooded sections opening up to a beautiful blue lake.
Hills are in the background and you have a little slice of history; what isn't there to enjoy?
The beach experiences heavy usage during the summer months, and at times the Limestone trail loop can seem a bit overcrowded, especially the shate near the Blair Limestone Co. Stepping onto one of canoe creek state park more difficult trails is normally a quick escape from any crowds, and leads to more opportunities to see wildlife.
I always end up packing out at least a shopping bags worth of trash on each visit, which is quite disappointing, and signs of water pollution are visible if you look for them. Personally, I would not come here to hike.
I walk my dog on the trails often, and it is a great place for that. Blue Knob State Park. Areas on the east and west sides of the park provide numerous picnic tables.
Picnic areas also contain charcoal grills and charcoal disposal units. Three picnic pavilions are available for rental.
Picnic pavilions may be reserved up to 11 months in advance for a fee. Unreserved picnic pavilions are free on a first-come, first-served basis.
Horseback Riding: A bridle trail loops around the northern part of the park. Riding horse rentals are not available in the area. Please wear fluorescent orange when hiking during hunting seasons.
